Scuola Grande di San Rocco

Sometimes while travelling you pass a place that simply feels different, and you stop to take a few photos. That is how I found Scuola Grande di San Rocco, wandering Venice’s lanes — drawn in by a refined stillness, then astonished once inside.

The ground-floor paintings are already worth the visit. Climb the stone stairs into the upper hall and your jaw drops: every surface is carved and painted, almost too much to take in.

When my neck ached from looking up, I found the large mirrors the museum provides on the long table to the left at the top of the stairs — heavy to hold, so the strain just moves to your arms. There is a third floor too, with religious objects and a mural under restoration.

Afterwards I found surprisingly little about it on blogs or even the official site. I hope more visitors to Venice discover it — excellent value at only €10 (about NT$340).
